A fairer way to set flights, net scores, and payouts

Starting this season, the Los Verdes Men’s Golf Club will use a new Los Verdes Tournament Index for the Monthly tournaments, Satellite Tournaments, and Bus Trips.

What is it?

Your Los Verdes Tournament Index is simply the lowest of:

• GHIN Handicap Index (your standard index)

• Los Verdes Home Index (based on your most recent rounds at Los Verdes)

• Los Verdes Competition Index (based on your most recent competitive rounds at Los Verdes)

This gives us an index that better reflects how you actually score in our events, while still honoring your official GHIN Index.

We want this to be clear and transparent.

If you have questions about your index or how it’s calculated, reach out to the club officers or tournament committee.

🌟 Why are we doing this?

✅ Fairer competition

Some golfers consistently play stronger in club tournaments than their GHIN Handicap suggests. Using the Tournament Index helps ensure flights and net results are as fair as possible for everyone.

✅ Better reflection of Los Verdes conditions

We play most of our events at Los Verdes. The Tournament Index includes performance on our course, which improves accuracy compared to a purely national index.

✅ Rewards participation

The more you play at Los Verdes and in club events, the more accurate your Tournament Index becomes—because it’s built from your actual scoring history here.

✅ Builds trust in results

A tournament system works best when members feel confident that outcomes reflect skill and performance—this helps protect the integrity of our competitions and payouts.

How is it calculated?

• Based on your last 20 rounds that qualify for each category (similar to the GHIN Handicap Iindex)
• Uses the same USGA-style “best differentials” method
• Produces a stable index that updates as you post scores

What does this change for you?

• Your GHIN Handicap Index does not change
• This is only used for Los Verdes Men’s Golf Club competitive events
• You’ll be able to see your:

• GHIN Handicap Index

• Los Verdes Home Index

• Los Verdes Competition Index

• Los Verdes Tournament Index (and which one was used)
