February Monthly Tournament Recap

Low Net / Low Gross — Sunday, February 22, 2026 (Los Verdes)

Los Verdes showed off on Sunday, February 22, and so did our membership. With clear skies and classic Southern California winter golf, the day started with a crisp morning in the mid-50s and warmed into the mid-to-upper 60s by late morning and afternoon—sunny, mild, and just about perfect for scoring.

And score we did.

Biggest turnout of 2026 (so far)

This event marked our largest outing of the year, with 149 players representing every handicap range. From the first tee shot to the final score posted, the energy on the course was exactly what a monthly should feel like: competitive, fun, and well-paced.

A special round: Dr. Lewis Simon fires 65

The highlight of the day was an exceptional performance by Dr. Lewis Simon, who posted a remarkable gross 65. It’s always impressive to watch great golf at Los Verdes—but what makes it even better is who Dr. Simon is: one of the kindest people you’ll meet at the course, and our Rules Chairman.

A big thank you as well for his work improving pace of play: Dr. Simon updated the local rules on the 16th hole, which made a meaningful difference in keeping groups moving.

Treasurer’s note from Bill Uphoff

Our Treasurer, Bill Uphoff, shared this message after the round:

“Members, thank you to the 149 members that played in the tournament. It was a wonderful day on the course, I appreciated the time on the course with my playing partners, the beer, and appetizers after the round; note I did not mention golf, too many strokes for me. To help speed of play, this month carts were mandatory unless approved by the Tournament Chairman. I went out in the first group at 6:30 and walked. We played in four hours and set the pace for the club. All rounds were completed under 5 hours, let's keep it going for the March 22, 4 Man 2 Best Ball tournament.”

Hole-in-One Insurance

We almost had our first Hole-in-One by David Zee on the 12th. A Hole-in-One is fantastic and we do have an insurance for it. See the rule and what happens when someone made one by clicking here!

That’s the standard we want—great golf, great company, and every group home in a reasonable time.

February Weekday Tournament

Date: February 16-22, 2026
Course: Los Verdes Golf Course
Format: Partner Net Tin Whistle. (AKA Stableford)

Round is played any day, Monday-Friday Feb. 16-20, 2026. Members are responsible for getting their own times and pay the starter for green fees/cart; there are no sign-up fees and no sign-up on Golf Genius. You must play with at least one other LVMGC member who must sign the scorecard.

Team Play Update: Both Teams Headed to the Playoffs!

We have great news to share from Team Play — both of our teams have officially qualified for the playoffs!

That’s a major accomplishment and something the entire club can be proud of. Making the postseason takes commitment from every player who suited up this season: showing up, competing, grinding out holes when it wasn’t pretty, and representing Los Verdes the right way. Congratulations to both teams for earning their spot.

Now it’s time for the next chapter.

Playoff matchups will be announced soon, and once opponents are determined, we’ll share the details and schedule. Until then, keep the momentum going — stay sharp, stay ready, and keep the team energy high.
