LVMC July Monthly Tournament
The format placed every player in the spotlight. Each foursome included an A, B, C, and D player, with the Orange Ball rotating by handicap group throughout the round. Each team score counted the Orange Ball player’s score, plus the best net score from the remaining three players, making every hole important and every player a key part of the team result.
At the top of the leaderboard, the team of Al Von Kanel, Paul Hendrickson, Mark Hendrickson, and Stephane Drolet finished at an impressive 16-under par, posting a total score of 126. They were matched by the team of Brian Van Heel, Alec Todryk, Eric Daniels, and Alex Rover, who also finished at 16-under par with a total of 126. The championship was decided by the tie-breaker, with the Von Kanel, Hendrickson, Hendrickson, and Drolet team taking first place thanks to a stronger performance on the back nine.
The runner-up team deserves special recognition for a tremendous round of golf. Brian Van Heel, Alec Todryk, Eric Daniels, and Alex Rover combined for a gross score of 10-under par, highlighted by phenomenal play from Brian Van Heel, who posted a gross 66. It was one of the standout performances of the tournament and helped create a dramatic race for the top position.
One of the shots of the day came on the 14th hole, where Paul Hendrickson chipped in for a net eagle, giving his team a major boost late in the round. On the same hole, Stephane Drolet made a gross birdie, which also resulted in a net eagle. That hole became one of the defining moments of the winning team’s back-nine performance and proved especially important in the final tie-breaker.
The leaderboard remained competitive beyond the top two teams. Kieth Windisch, Charles Johnson, John Jacques, and Perry Klokkevold finished in third place at 13-under par, followed by Jeff Pera, Stan Kohler, Michael Pera, and Kenny Stanton, who also posted 13-under par. Rounding out the top five was the team of Steve Lee, Michael Eastman, Sam Leksunthon, and Sung Park, who finished at 11-under par.
The Orange Ball Team Event once again proved to be one of the most enjoyable summer formats on the LVMC calendar. Congratulations to the winning team, to all the top finishers, and to every member who participated in another successful July Monthly Tournament.
Orange Ball Team Event Comes Down to a Tie-Breaker
The LVMC July Monthly Tournament was held on Sunday, July 19, and the Orange Ball Team Event delivered exactly what this format is known for: teamwork, strategy, pressure, and a very exciting finish. Players enjoyed a mild summer morning at Los Verdes, with comfortable early conditions, light winds, and great scoring weather as the tournament got underway.
