2026 LVMC Member / Guest Tournament

The 2026 LVMC Member / Guest Tournament is one of the biggest and most anticipated events of the year. On Sunday, September 20, LVMC members will have the opportunity to invite a guest to Los Verdes for a full day of golf, competition, great food, prizes, and the camaraderie that makes our club special.

The Member / Guest is also one of the best opportunities we have each year to introduce new golfers to LVMC. We spend the entire season competing together, playing in tournaments, attending club events, and building friendships. This tournament gives our members the chance to share that experience with someone who may not normally have the opportunity to participate in an LVMC event.

Competition will feature a Partner Best Ball format, with all players competing from the White Tees. Bring a partner you enjoy playing with and see how well you can work together. Current handicap indexes will be used, while a guest without an established GHIN number will play as scratch.

And there is plenty happening beyond the competition. The Member / Guest is designed to be a complete outing from beginning to end. Your entry includes golf with an electric cart, range balls, a goody bag with a commemorative prize, a breakfast burrito, Bloody Mary Cart, lunch, tournament prize fund, tee prizes, and raffle prizes.

Whether your goal is to compete for the top prize or simply enjoy a memorable day with a guest, this is one LVMC event you will not want to miss. Find your partner, register your team, and introduce someone to the club we all enjoy being part of.

Handicap: Current Index. Guests without a GHIN number will play as scratch.
Tees: All golfers play from the White Tees.
Eligibility: Open to Current and Life Members of LVMC participating with a guest.
Entry Fee: $375.00 per team. The entry fee must be paid in full at the time of registration.
Entry Deadline: Saturday, September 12, 2026 at 11:00 PM

August Championship Weekend: Records, Playoffs and Some of the Best Golf We’ve Seen in Years

Dr. Lewis Simon — Club Champion and Course Record Holder

The headline performance of the weekend belonged to Dr. Lewis Simon.

Simon opened the Gross Championship with a 69, putting himself in excellent position heading into Sunday. What followed was extraordinary: a final-round 63, giving him a two-day total of 132, 10-under par, and a commanding 13-shot victory over Wil Ingram. David Stocke and Josh Lottman tied for third at 146.

The victory gives Simon his second LVMC Club Championship in the last three years, but the championship itself became only part of the story.

His 63 tied the longstanding Los Verdes course record originally established by Ben Serns in 1975, just 11 years after Los Verdes opened. Serns ultimately shot 63 twice, and Ben Battye joined him with a 63 in 2022 while still a senior in high school. Simon can now add his name to that very short and distinguished list.

And he certainly didn't back into the record.

By the time Simon reached the final green, everyone knew what was at stake. The rest of his group finished putting so the stage belonged entirely to him. A sizable gallery gathered around the green, the conversation turned to the course record, and Simon faced approximately 30 feet for the 63.

With the championship already on the line and everyone watching, he stepped over the putt — and drilled it.

Course record tied.

Championship won.

As one member watching the finish summed it up perfectly: “Dr. Legend.”

It was one of those rare moments when everyone around the green understood immediately that they had witnessed something special.

David Stocke Captures the Senior Club Championship

Congratulations also go to David Stocke, our 2026 Senior Club Champion.

Stocke put together rounds of 74 and 72 for a 146 total, finishing tied for third on the overall Gross Championship leaderboard while securing the Senior title.

Against a Gross Championship field that produced some remarkably strong golf throughout the weekend, Stocke's consistency over both days made for an impressive championship performance.

Net Championship Produces Two Thrilling Finishes

If the Gross Championship gave us a historic performance, the Net Club Championship provided the drama.

The scoring was exceptionally strong. As Paul Hendrickson noted afterward, the cumulative scores were among the best the club has seen in years, and Sunday began with numerous players in legitimate contention.

Flight 2 — Zach Zupon Goes to Five Under

In Flight 2, Zach Zupon delivered a terrific closing round.

After opening with a 70, Zupon fired a 67 on Sunday to finish at 137, five-under par, earning the victory by one stroke. Ken Von Helmolt and Joseph Yoon finished tied behind him at four-under, while defending champion Willie Krenz finished two-under.

The top of the leaderboard was packed with quality golf. Von Helmolt posted consecutive 69s, Yoon closed with a 68, and Krenz answered Saturday's pace reminder by keeping his group moving — and staying in contention.

But nobody caught Zupon.

A 67 when it mattered most gave him the championship.

Flight 1 — Portiz Wins a Playoff in Front of the Gallery

Flight 1 provided the kind of Sunday finish tournament organizers dream about.

Andrew Zilch, Jason Dulle, defending champion Marc Souza, David Battye, Mark Hendrickson and Patrick Portiz all found themselves involved in a leaderboard that seemed to change every few holes.

Around the 14th and 15th holes, the pressure started producing everything we love about amateur tournament golf: clutch putts, difficult recoveries, unfortunate swings and dramatic leaderboard swings.

Dulle reached five-under before trouble off the tee opened the door. Souza responded with a birdie to move back into contention, while Portiz kept hanging around.

Then came No. 18.

Wearing Tiger Woods Sunday red, Portiz hit an outstanding approach to approximately six feet and converted the birdie in front of a gallery of roughly 40 members. The fist pump followed.

Souza still had an opportunity to win outright. After staying alive with an up-and-down on 17, he hit a strong drive on 18 and gave himself approximately 15 feet for the championship. His putt narrowly missed, leaving Portiz and Souza tied at 139, three-under par after 36 holes.

On to the playoff.

Portiz then ended it in style, hitting his approach on 18 to approximately one foot in front of the gallery.

That was the championship.

Jeff Barrett Leads the August Individual Low Net

While the Club Championship fields battled over two days, another group of LVMC members competed Sunday in the August Individual Low Net Tournament.

Jeff Barrett took top honors with an excellent net 65, six-under par, two shots clear of Andrew Gill's 67. Jeffrey Wells finished third with a 68, followed by Arun Bharath at 69. RJ Laguda and Andrew Marusich both posted 70s.

Gill may not have taken the overall title, but he certainly filled up the highlight reel. He captured two skins, recording a double eagle on No. 6 and an eagle on No. 18. Javier Munoz claimed the remaining skin with an eagle on No. 13.

Not a bad Sunday.

A Championship Weekend Takes a Team

A weekend this large does not happen without a considerable amount of work behind the scenes.

Special thanks go to Stephane Drolet for handling tournament operations throughout the weekend, from check-in through the final bills each day, and to Tournament Chairman Alec Todryk for the extensive preparation and after-hours work necessary to put everything together.

Thanks as well to Paul Hendrickson, Ralph Ferdinand, and Erik Weiss for assisting throughout the weekend, and to everyone who marshaled, helped with scoring, followed the leaders and ultimately gathered around the finishing holes to give our championships the atmosphere they deserve.

There may also have been a strategically distributed cold beverage or two used to encourage groups to keep pace.

Whatever works.

The result was a memorable weekend featuring deep leaderboards, former champions battling new contenders, a playoff in front of a packed 18th green and one of the finest rounds ever played at Los Verdes.

And at the center of it all was a 30-foot putt for 63.

Congratulations to Lewis Simon, David Stocke, Patrick Portiz, Zach Zupon and Jeff Barrett — and to everyone who competed in an outstanding 2026 LVMC Championship Weekend.

August delivered one of the biggest tournament weekends of the LVMC season, with the 2026 Gross Club Championship, the Net Club Championship, and the August Individual Low Net all taking place at Los Verdes. Across the three events, members produced exceptional scores, dramatic finishes and, in one case, a piece of Los Verdes history.

By the time Sunday evening arrived, Dr. Lewis Simon had added another Club Championship to his résumé and tied the course record with a 63, David Stocke had become our Senior Club Champion, Patrick Portiz and Zach Zupon had survived two highly competitive Net Championship flights, and Jeff Barrett had captured the August Individual Low Net.

And there was plenty of drama along the way.
