BIG WIN: Weekend Team Play storms back for 44–20 victory

The LVMGC Weekend Team Play squad delivered a statement win this week, turning a tight match into a decisive 44–20 final with a furious back-nine rally.

If you were following along live, you saw the story unfold the hard way: we trailed after the front nine and the match felt like it could swing either direction on every hole. Then the back nine happened—steady swings, smart decisions, and clutch finishes across multiple groups that flipped close matches into wins. The final score says “blowout,” but everyone who watched knows the truth: it was far closer than the margin suggests.

Moment of the match: a bunker hole-out on 18

The highlight came late, and it was pure drama. Joseph Yoon, sitting in the bunker short-left of 18, protected a slim one-hole lead with everything on the line. Then he did the unthinkable—holed out for birdie to seal 7 points for him and partner Willie Krenz.

It was the kind of shot that swings a match and sticks in your memory. The reaction from the other side said it all—when that chip dropped, the looks were priceless.

Rookie impact: Baha Lee shines under pressure

Big credit also goes to rookie Baha Lee, who made an immediate impact. Partnering with Mike Herscha, Baha helped bring home 6 points in their match—then kept competing after the round by helping coach the Mark Hendrickson / Al von Kanel group to another 6 points in a hotly contested battle.

That’s the kind of contribution that elevates a team: points on the card, composure in the moment, and support that carries across groups.

Next up: rematch at our place Saturday

There’s no time to coast. We get them at our place on Saturday, and the message is simple: be ready for your call. Momentum is real—but so is a motivated opponent who knows how close this match truly was.

LA Partner's Cup
aka South Bay Cup Victory

Dear Membership,

I am happy to share with you all that the Gentlemen representing Los Verdes Men's Golf Club won the 2025 LA Partners Cup (aka South Bay Cup) on October 19th for the first time since 2021. We have had many close calls last few years and this years team left no doubt that we would bring the cup home this year!

Our charge up the leaderboard began on Saturday at Chester Washington Club where our first two teams out brought home 7 out of 8 points possible! Our anchor team started slow and were down by 2 with three holes to play on the front nine and they then won 3 holes in a row to win the front 9 and that momentum carried onto the back 9 as well. They brought home all 4 points to put LV Top of the Leaderboard heading home to LV on Sunday to play 12 singles matches. Huge shout out to our top performing teams of Kelly/Romero; Ciesielski/Hobbs; and Jacques/Oberoi!

The route was on at Sunday singles as 8 of 12 brought home wins and points to win the LA Partners Cup! Please congratulate the following members who represented LV with grace and class:

Francisco Romero, Clark Kelly, Radek Ciesielski, Keith Hobbs
Don Butts, Firooz Ghassemi, Ali Oberoi, Jim Zupon
Rick Hahn, Mike Swanson, John Jacques, Shuja Oberoi, Steve Howard

These gentlemen golfers will be representing us at the regional finals on November 15 at Mountain Meadows GC in Pomona. We will be playing for the Kessler Cup which we last won in 2021 as well.

Thank you,

Ali Oberoi
